I wired the garage door opener permanently this afternoon and tested it together with my car. There aren’t too many inches to spare. Check it out:

Can people get out of both sides of the car at the same time?

Plenty of room!

I had a garage with about that much clearance; tennis ball on string is your friend.

That’s about as much room as I have, too. Evil people built my house.

Nice , well done!

If you don’t think it’s unsafe , you might consider moving the optical sensors up to bumper height. That will keep the door from closing (accidentally) if you don’t pull in far enough.

If you don’t have kids to worry about, you can raise that door beam up to the level that intersects your furthest point on the bumper, then once the light stops blinking you know you’re in far enough.  I used that in my rental place when I was in Dayton for work.  Worked great.

Lol, I just posted the same advice, works great, assuming no kiddos running around.

My sister once had an old condo in Evanston with a very old garage. It was pretty deep actually but just barely room to get out of her Fit on one side.

It was in an area where off street parking is a rare luxury. Another annoying thing about it was the apron had settled such that you had to back in just so to avoid scraping bottom on the threshold. I once parked my clubman in there and tore one of the plastic jack pads off on the way out.

Makes it pretty dummy  proof.  Or you could go the parking block route too, which I had to do at the new place due to kiddos.  But the beam elevation is much nicer IMO.

Time to hang a tennis ball from the ceiling.
